We see you. We hear you. We support you.
Our bighouse is a sacred thing, and on Saturday October 29th, we honoured women through safe and healthy cultural practices.
Tables were set up for women with healthy tools of coping demonstrated through culture or resources that advocate for the safety and security of women.
Women gathered to cedar weave, make fried bread, creatively think of future goals through vision boarding, express themselves through art, writing, or beading. The gathering ended with a meal and talking circle led by Louisa Housty-Jones as part of her Women’s Portfolio with the Heiltsuk Tribal Council.
Developing healthy coping mechanisms is a passion of Louisa’s and she seeks to share that passion through programs like the one done in our bighouse on Saturday.
Gathering in sacred spaces to uphold and uplift the protection of women is something HTC has always worked to practice and enhance.
Building trust takes time. Creating a safe community free of sexual violence against woman is an ideal outcome through these programs.
